Washington State

 

Goal: Select a marginalized population and how they are affected within a specific institution or organizational system.

 

Project Description: Background information on LGBTQ discrimination within the education system in Washington State is presented through exposition.

Exploring Journalism Ethics in

Local Crime Reporting

 

Goal: Examine if the language used in journalism exacerbates racism. 

 

Project Description: In collaboration with Diane Tymony, a colleague, and J. Hope Corbin, our professor, we coded 40 different articles to determine levels of exacerbation within local journalism. Findings were presented at Western Washington University during Scholars Week, May 19-20, 2016.

Project Description: A contextualization of how Buddhism as an artifact passed on through language and tradition.

Mental Health Awareness

 

Goal: Increase awareness about the severity of mental health issues for LGBTQ youth. 

 

Project Description: Background research on existing literature was conducted and a proposed campaign design is presented.

The Value of Listening in Communication: What I've Learned as a Stutterer

 

Summary: I struggled with my identity as a stutterer growing up. But as I got older, I learned to leverage my adversity through empathy and the practice of active listening. In this article, I share the advantages of using listening when engaging in conversation.

Summary: In 2015, millions of refugees were placed in various countries. A FinTech startup Finland decided to help them get back on their feet through a money card that functions on blockchain technology, a distributed ledger system. In this article, I lend insight into MONI and a brief overview of blockchain technology.

Presentation Description: Mental Health continues to be an issue, especially for LGBTQ youth. Provided in this presentation were highlighted findings found during formative research, prospective qualitative and quantitative resources, and content for public promotion.

Presentation Description: A difficult topic to address amongst men is mental health. Man Therapy is a campaign that uses humor to tackle conversations surrounding men's mental health issues. Provided in this presentation was an overview of the campaign, similar campaigns, and suggestions for improvements and future research.
